I am desperately trying to find my roots, and found that a certain Robert Brewis served in the Railway pioneer regiment during, what appeared to be 1900 until 1901. I could not find anyone with the surname Brewis on the side of the Boer regiments during the ABW. His only known relative was his brother named James. I am not sure about the location but it appears to be "Northhumberland" UK ? as his residence, and a farmer by trade. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Dennis Brewis Jnr.

Good morning,
From a brief look at WO126 and RG14 it appears to be "New Moor Farm" Ashington, which is near Morpeth in Northumberland.
Members of your family, thoughout the 19th century, very clearly come from this area, a nice part of the country.
Welcome here and good luck with your research.
Regards Frank

Dennis,

To support Frank's correct assertion here's an extract from the 'Newcastle Daily Journal' Saturday October 3rd 1914. Good luck with your researches.

Best wishes,

Justin

Thank you Justin !
btw. I have found no recorded documents on the Brewis family history in South Africa prior to the 1900`s I will keep searching though. My Grandfather was Pieter Christiaan Brewis born in 1906.
I also stumbled across a very interesting book, an open library on British South Africa. It has detailed records of the first British settlers to south Africa via Cape town. No mention of my surname appears to be in there.

Hello Dennis,

Did your Grandfather pass away in 1929 at the age of 23 years?

If so, could this be him??
