Thank you djb! Checking my email just now, there was a message about your post and also one from the old correspondent in England who is related to Herbert's wife, so that's one side of the conversation all set -- me, I'll just be the middle woman. ;)

I haven't had a chance to add to the Introductions forum yet but I shall do that before too long and contribute my peripheral but of course totally fascinating (to me!) connection with the Second Anglo-Boer War.

Well heavens, you knew all that stuff -- I assumed you were coming from the other way around as my buddy in England was I guess. Herbert's wife was a pretty close relation of his. Did you know she was a warder at Holloway and knew the Pankhursts? ;)

I got a brief note from him today to say he had got my email and would reply at more length on the weekend. All of the info about Herbert and family in Canada was new to him.

Do you want to send me a private message with your email address and I can put you two together?

I just loves genealogy. :cheer:

For anyone else following the tale -- I have passed Jack's email address on to Joan's rellie in England and sent the info I researched on to Jack, and I heard back from Joan's rellie in England as I was doing that.

I see a thing called "karma" under usernames on the forum here -- I don't know what it means in this forum, but I have said for years that I am a strong believer in genealogy karma, and this meeting is a case of it if ever I have seen one. ;)!

I'm thrilled to have put Joan in touch with her family in England. (Assuming my research is not all wet!)
