Vince,

You say John Firmin had a brother, the GENI information adds two more - Frederick Richard and Robert Arthur. Looking at the Manning's on the medal roll page we have, two above Manning J, Manning F R and in between Manning F S. In my experience "F" & "J" often got misread and interchanged - it was because of the old fashioned way of writing the two capital letters - not actually that old fashioned because when I was first taught to do joined up writing at Waterloo Road Infant's School, Smethwick that was the way you did them. So Manning F S could really have been Manning J S. Accepting my hypothesis we have three of the four brothers serving in the KTG. Moving back to your photo do we have the three brothers plus an officer? The officer could be Captain Moseley your father mentioned in his journal - he appears near the start of the KTG medal roll as Moseley E H and he received a mention in Colonel Kekewich's report after the Relief - see attached newspaper clipping - don't think that qualified as an MiD.

Liverpool Daily Post 9 May 1900:

I have now found another defender of Mostert's Redoubt - born in the USA! but in reality he had the blood of Yorkshire flowing through his veins.

David.
