Dear Adrian,
That was very kind of you, and very prescient too! I would be very interested in the Dublin Napier, as quite a lot of the paternal side of our family are from Ireland. I need to look through all the family history work my father did some time ago - I have a gut feeling James Napier is related, but probably at quite a distance. I will let you know how I get on - thanks again for your help, much appreciated.
