Nothing missing in this case, Thompson joined the regiment in 1895, his papers are in WO97 at Kew, available whilst there or on line.

Please can someone help me to find my Grt Uncle's record re the Boer War. He immigrated to Canada c1913, and fought with the 5th Mounted Rifles Quebec Reg. WW1 Falling on the 2nd 3rd June 1916.

Biddy,

Mike's chapter suggestion was a good one. There are other chapters on Magersfontein in the Books section. Here is the account in the Times History:

There are service papers for Edward Thompson if you do not already have these?

They can be obtained online and at cost from FindMyPast or free at the National Archives.

I have just read the account you recommended David, and again, thank you. Very clearly portrayed the Battle, and I must admit, I really could feel Uncle Edward on the field.. I wish I had known him or even of him. But Grandad, Peter Thompson 3432 and S/43049 Black Watch, WW1, never spoke of his family with us.
By the way, I did check my Profile and my e-mail is correct.
