I am new to this forum and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is a list of 17th Lancers who served in the Boer War?
Also did the 17th Lancers come under the banner of the Imperial Light Horse?
I hope I have attached a photo of my relative !!!!

Hi Sucy,
Welcome to the Forum. There is a roll of the medals issued for the campaign to the 17th Lancers at the National Archives at Kew (WO 100/118 starting at page 102) and available on line. Can you give us a name?

The 17th Duke of Cambridge's Lancers were a line regiment of the British Armies Corps of Lancers and had nothing to do with the SAMIF whatsoever, the men who served in South Africa during the Anglo Boer War are shown in WO100/118 and WO100/305 and were commanded by a certain Douglas Haig, or, "The Chief" as he became known.

Where did you get this information? Do you have a "name" for your relative?

Surviving service papers for rank and file members of the 17th DCO Lancers are in WO97, WO363 and WO364 for the period in question here, South African Mounted Irregular Force rank and file papers only, including those for the Imperial Light Horse are in WO126.
