I have a visit planned to the NSW State Archives sometime soon to do some work (hopefully) on a chap in 2dn Contingent, 1st NSWMR. This source appears to be an unmined area of info and I will also have a look to see if the men of the "dismounted establishment" (specifically cooks) are named. It is a long shot - but they sometimes work out. Please do not hold your breath as it will probably be in August.

This reply took a lot longer than I thought it would I have just returned from a long-planned visit to the New South Wales State Archives; it has very limited ABW holdings - it does have some documentation about the 1st NSWMR. Unfortunately, the documentation only relates to "A" Squadron and not anything regarding the other contingents making up 1st NSWMR. Sorry about that. I missed out in my quest as well; no consolation to you, I am sure.
