A train made in Simonstown and despatched to the front 18 August 1900. It carries two 12 pounders and is painted khaki.

'Boer prisoners at Simonstown.

General Prinsloo with Generals A J Villiers and Crowther and 986 men, 1,432 horses, 955 rifles and one Krupp none-pounder, surrendered near Fouriesburg . The prisoners were sent to Simonstown where their entry made an imposing sight. Guarded on either side by soldiers the long procession formed an interesting picture.'

Lovely old photo's David.

I can tell you that most of the buildings in the main street are still there and everything still looks pretty much the same. My home is on the mountain slope at the rear of the photo.

Thanks for posting these photo's

Adrian,

That is interesting to hear. I would love to come and visit one day.

It is enjoyable to post these pictures, most of which I have not seen before elsewhere.

I have two volumes of The Graphic on loan so I will have to increase my photographing rate to get through them.

Kind regards
David

Hello David,

You would be more than welcome. We would of course, make sure that there was medal meeting with all the local chaps as well.

Adrian,

I added about 25 maps to the Places posts yesterday and this brought home to me how few places I have visited and how many I would like to visit one day.

I did look at travelling south when I was in Cape Town in 2016 but did not have the time to do so. A medal meeting in your part of the world would be fantastic.
