Walking along the lines of the CMR, this is a picture looking down to the river in the valley bottom showing the flat expanse of land any attacker would need to cross.

The river is not visible but is there.

On the far bank are the hills occupied by the Boers.

Walking down from the CMR lines towards the river, this may be a possible trench along the tree line?

The picture is taken looking east so the defences are to the left and the Boers would be coming from the right.

On the road north towards the intersection of the 1st and 2nd Brabant's Horse position, this picture is taken looking SE towards Observation Hill with the Jammersberg dominating the background.

Some maps show the camp of the 1st Brabant's Horse to be nestled in this area between the road on the right and the defences of the 1st BrH on the middle distance.

From the 1st and 2nd Brabant's Horse intersection at the top left of the defences and looking south ease, these are the distances involved

This image from Google Maps shows where the last picture was taken and depicts the terrain. It also shows why staying in Wepener was not an option for the defending force.
