Hi,

Interesting choice for a username......:)

1. I had a quick look at my archive of catalogues and believe the medal in question was sold on City Coins, Auction 61, held in April 2013, Lot no 81.
2. I include a snapshot of the description as FYI. Not sure if it is the actual medal or an example of one.
3. These medals were usually impressed and not engraved when named

Oh, in case you are wondering, I do not have the medal. I would suggest that a regular internet search of auctions, perhaps sending in a Medal Tracker request to the Medal News magazine MAY eventually pay dividends.

Good luck

Regards

Gavin

Hi

Also just checked the medal roll for the O'okiep medal by Don Forsyth and 259 Pte. D. Cruywagen is shown as being in the Namaqualand Town Guard. Of interest there was a second person with this surname on the list, i.e. 301 Pte. J Cruywagen, a relative perhaps serving in the same unit.

The front cover of Brian Kieran's book does not include a medal in that location so this is very probably his medal.

Hi David, thank you for confirming this. I do not have a copy of Brian Kieran's book so was unsure...

Wow Gavin you have provided me with so much useful info which I am sure will help me in my search. Now that I have the exact details of the sale I will forward them to Ruth at City Auctions and see what she comes up with. I will also try some of your other suggestions.

Every year at the start of winter in the UK there is a parade and gathering to commemorate the Boer War. I will attend this year and see if anyone there can assist me. A good friend of mine managed to gather some info about D Cruywagen from the UK war archives for me. So we are making little bits of progress. I’ve found this forum and website very helpful and I would like to thank each and everyone for their assistance.
