Mike

There are a number of papers in the Pietermaritzburg Repository of the S A National Archives that relate to Sharratt. You can access the descriptions on their website , but you would need a local researcher to copy them.

The files are dated between 1886 and 1915 and the following can be gleaned from them:
His first name was Samuel.
He owned the farm Klein Waterfall in the Bergville district, which he sold to the Government in 1910.
He also served as a Stock Inspector.
An 1894 file links him to Acton Homes, which has an important Boer War link.
There is a mention of the Upper Tugela Magistracy being established in 1897.
He died in 1915.

It's great that you have some good material for your new camera Mike!

Can I ask how the unit name is abbreviated please?

Thank you
David

Mike,

The Pietermartitzburg archives also holds the muster roles for the Rifle Associations. Whilst last there, I didn't have time to photograph many of the pages. Here is an example from the Dundee RA what I used for my Talana book.

Good Morning David.....

The unit name is not abbreviated and the medal just has the name S. Sharratt......

The medal was accompanied by a copy of the medal roll....
