Hong Kong Plague Medal (Private T. Hyde, S.L.I.) rank and unit correctly impressed, name renamed (engraved), edge bruising, contact marks

Thomas Hyde was born in Ledbury, Herefordshire. A Painter by occupation and a former member of the 1st Hereford Rifle Volunteers and 4th Battalion King’s Shropshire Light Infantry, he enlisted for full-time service at Shrewsbury on 28 September 1888, aged 18 years. He served in Hong Kong, India and South Africa. Transferred to the Army Reserve on 26 February 1896, he rejoined the Colours on 4 July 1898 but was discharged as unfit for further service on 12 June 1900.

2899 Pte T Hyde. The QSA roll (WO100/194p404] says he returned to England 23 December 1899.

Spink have two single Hong Kong plagues medals in their next auction but neither are believed to have seen Boer War service.

This would be a great medal to reunite with its QSA!

Hong Kong Plague Medal 1894 – Kings Shropshire Light Infantry.
Hong Kong Plague Medal 1894, Private J. Weston, S.L.I. (Officially impressed naming)

Joshua Weston was born in Wellington, Shropshire in 1870. He enlisted into the 2nd Battalion Shropshire Light Infantry on the 30th June 1880. He served at home to the 15th September 1889, Malta to 16th March 1891, Egypt to 1st December 1891, Hong Kong to 21st December 1894, India to 16th February 1896, Home to 6th November 1899, South Africa to 18th July 1901, Home to 13th August 1901 when he was discharged. His service Papers and medal rolls confirm he is also entitled to the Queens South Africa medal with 4 clasps. Paardeburg, Dreifontein, CC, SA01 He was imprisoned on the 15th June 1893 for “assault” for 56 days.
