I have acquired a DOL QSA to W THOMSON of the LTG.

Other than confirming that he is on the role (there is also what appears to be a relative G THOMSON)I am unable to find out anything about this chap including that crucial tit bit - his christian name.

Does anyone have an idea on where I would be able to find this out - let me hasten to add that I have tried various permutations on the SA Archive site.

Regards

Rory

Rory,

A nice medal!

Not sure how much this helps but there is a thick book of information in the back room on the Ladysmith Siege Museum. Whilst I was last there, I had no time to copy much of it.

You could also try Brian Kaighin at www.ladysmithhistory.com

Good luck

Rory,

If you search the names on this site, you will find 146 William Guthrie Thomson who was a member of the Ladysmith Rifle Association before amalgamation into the LTG and a resident in ward 3.

Best wishes

Thank you David

I am at a loss however, to find any reference to him where you suggest.

On trawling through the Natal Alamanac of 1906 this morning I find reference to a W Thomson, Driver, resident at Ladysmith. All years prior to this and many years subsequent leave me empty handed.

Hi Rory,

If you go to the LTG page ( www.angloboerwar.com/unit-information/to...ladysmith-town-guard ), you can either enter his name and click on search or just click on search to show all the men in the LTG.

Kind regards
David

Thanks David

I did so and was gratified to see Thomson's name there.

A question - the medal and medal roll record only the initial W and yet you have him as a William Guthrie Thomson.

Might I ask where you were able to obtain his exact identity from please. It will help with research efforts.
