Here is another medallion named to a chief from a friend of mine. Interesting the naming is the same and the arrow before and after the name is the same. So was this officially done or did the same jeweller do the engraving. Named medallions to Chiefs are very Rare.

I am very grateful to Ron Sheeley from North Carolina in the USA - Ron bought the medals and photo album of Trooper Martin, one of the two NP men who were escorting Stainbank on that fateful day. Martin took photos of the Stainbank camp and two of the actual spot where Stainbank was mortally wounded. X, as they say, marks the spot.

How unusual was it for a trooper to have a camera while on the front line in the Boer War. fortunately for us that he did, and the album survived and has been shared

Having read your recent post l looked back at this earlier very detailed story, which gives a little more interesting background to the events taking place during my grandfathers time as a Natal Carbineer in the 1906 rebellion.
