I've already submitted my bids but must add that I find some of the estimates to be either absurdly low or on the high side....

Time will tell but it is galling to have to pay a minimum for a group/medal you know to be worth not that much.

Yes, that minimum amount is unusual in an auction. Is there any merit in not bidding and offering a lower bid if it does not sell at the minimum?

It's an open forum David so I would rather not be specific but I don't know of any instance where they have accepted an offer, post auction, of less than the initial estimate....
