No worries. It was earned in Natal by a Natal man so I guess it really ought to stay in Natal.

Long overdue and glad to be aboard!

Yes, I am "well chuffed" at acquiring the Transport Medal and David has just published a nice thread on them, great timing.

Frank

Thanks for the welcome, and relevant medal roll attachment for my man...fantastic!

I am hoping over the next few days to gather up some more info on Mr Garland, I do believe he went on to command ships with the British India Steam Nav Co and passed away in 1915.

Regards
Brian

Brian,

When the medal was sold by DNW in 1993 the description said:

Chief Officer, S.S. Dunera, British India Steam Navigation Co., which was one of several ships originally hired as transports but fitted out at Durban and employed in establishing a fortnightly system of hospital ships for the conveyance of invalids to England. Garland was promoted Commander, R.N.R., in September 1902 and died in July 1915 at Mombassa.

Kind regards
David

Thanks David, its always nice to be able to follow a medals history and previous sales.

One of our local KZN fellow forum members has kindly sent me some additional info on my man just this morning.(Thanks R) His full names were Edward Henry White Garland, it is really quiet amazing what the internet can reveal, that is if you know where to look :)

I was hoping Mr Garland might have additional medals such as a possible RNR Long Service award, but so far it looks like it is not the case.

Brian
