Medals to SANLC NCOs and Officers come up regularly but not in such splendid groups. I always look at them as they very often had prior service.

Is the Star named to DEOVR?

Regards
Meurig[/quote]

Meurig,

Embarrassed as I am, the star is named to "2nd Infantry" I took the information from his paperwork and not the medal itself, which I should have checked. The paperwork does state DEOVR and the research was done in 1991.

Regards,
Wombat,
James.

James,

The 2nd Infantry was the DEOVR and that is how all the WW1 medals are named to that Regiment.

Best wishes,

Justin

The catalogue description says the KSA is unnamed which is a shame.

CMG STAR (TWO NECK BADGES) and ribbon, VICTORIAN DSO (part of enamel replaced) with ribbon, QUEEN’S SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL with five bars, (TRANSVAAL, DREIFONTEIN, PAARDEBERG, MODDER RIVER, BELMONT), KING’S SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL with two bars, replacement unnamed 1914-1915 TRIO, FRENCH LEGION OF HONOUR, RUSSIA, STANISLAVS GOLD.

It is the 15 Trio that is unnamed, I spoke to the auctioneer today.

Caveat Emptor - when Johnson's medals appeared in the Spink Centenary auction, the group was only the D.S.O. and Boer War pair.

Hello Justin,
This sort of thing really does infuriate me, if you are paying out large sums of money, you really do need it to be all original and not just bloody well made up!
Kind regards Frank

I hear you Frank - but even getting the medals from the recipient is no guarantee they are his originals; medals/orders get lost, recipients tell tales..
