'Batta' is from the Hindustani word 'bhatta', meaning allowance or extra pay.

This 341 West Street was in Durban, I believe.

QSA (4) Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901 (1187 HP. Cpl F. J. Hennion. 1/K.F.S.).

M&E say Frederick Joseph Hennion of the 1st Battalion, Kitchener’s Fighting Scouts, is confirmed on the medal rolls. He had previously served with the 2nd Volunteer Company, 2nd Battalion, Norfolk Regiment.

QSA (3) Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (1518 Cpl. J. B. Taylor. 1/K.F.S.).

M&E say John Bright Taylor of the 1st Battalion, Kitchener’s Fighting Scouts, is confirmed on the medal rolls. He is listed in ‘The Boer War Casualty Roll’ by Palmer as having been slightly wounded in action near Haenertsburg, Northern Transvaal, on 16 April 1902.
