Why he only uses an initial in the sources you found is more to do with how those sources were created than his like or dislike of his first name. When Kevin Asplin created his IY roll he only checked the IY attestation papers which is why some men like Cyril only have an initial.

I bought the rights to Kevin's IY roll and so the persist the "initial only" problem in The Register. But, I correct The Register when I find the name.

Other sources just use the medal roll which for most IY men only gives the initial.
