Cheers,

Good Morning Mark.....

No the medal that I have is not named and has never been named.....

I have seen 2 others in museums and when they checked their records for me they found that these and others i.e. China 1900, AGS, IGSM 95, Crimea and some others were made up by the Master of the Mint and given to them for display purposes only.....

The DNW sale of March 28th, 2012 had a large number of these samples, some marked and some not marked as gifts..... A AGS 1902/56 with 34 bars, a NGS with 9 bars that was marked "From the Master of the Mint to the United Services Institution"....... There were a lot of planchets sold as well.....

Mike: there was a 24 clasp example in the old Sydney mint (no date clasps) back in the 70's and more recently I traced it to somewhere in the bowels of the "Powerhouse" museum. The curator did not know where it came from nor what it represented. Some seven or so years ago, a 26 clasp example turned up in a Sydney militaria shop and now resides in a certain collection. It exhibits characteristics identical to the one you have.

Thanks for this Mike. I have been looking for one of these for a while now and failed to acquire the last two which I have seen at auction. The quality of this is lower than previous examples but I am tempted ...

According to my records I purchased this one in 2005 for L 610 at OMRS convention.....

In 2000 one was sold for L 580 (ebay)
In 2007 one was sold for L 1450 (PMM)
In 2008 one was sold for L 1600 (DNW)

These were all in good condition.....

There is one in a museum here so there are at least 7 out there.....

David,
I did not think it was a good example, do not feel it would be worthy of a place in your collection.
