This medal arrived today - is there nobody who has access to a diary which might mention the Leicesters in Ladysmith on that fateful day? The closest I have come is George Tatham's diary: -

1900 - From the diary of Major George Tatham, Natal Carbineers

A few shots from Long Tom was about our only change, mostly directed to Caesar's Camp. Dull day, not wet.

I think you have cracked it ResearchRescue! Given the closeness of the dates and the fact that the Leicester's are mentioned, I am inclined to think that the man "Killed" is in fact Whitehead.

Such a pity that, unlike WWI, there are no War Diaries kept.
