Perhaps you could post a pic of that problematic "Coronation" medal? BTW, Officers who qualified for the 1902 Coronation medal received theirs in silver; Other Ranks in bronze.

Thanks.

Herewith both sides of the medal.

With magnification the serial number is actually 871988.

I found only one of the same type on the internet but not much detail except that the ribbon would have been red, white, and blue.

Not a Coronation Medal but one of many medallions issued at the time. Is it made if silver or lightweight white metal? Most of the medallions were made out of the latter.

WGodwin,

A very nice pair of medals.

He enlisted in the Kaffrarian Rifles on 24 October 1899. As IL says, his Wepener clasp was issued late on 11 March 1905.

A man with the name S Weight earned the KSA (2) with the ASC (WO100/349p419) but no connection between the two has been found.

As he earned the Wepener clasp, he would not have been entitled to OFS. There is no indication that he earned the OFS clasp before Wepener was added to the roll.

Many thanks for the information.

The medallion looks silver, but does seem to be of a lighter alloy. I see from internet images that there were many variants.

Not sure how the OFS clasp came to be added.

I have been trying to follow up on Sergeant S. Weight (11701) who earned the KSA (2) with the Army Service Corps (WO100/349p419).

The ASC record in unit information on this site states that S. Weight died on 29 August 1903 in Pretoria? (Source: In Memoriam by S Watt).

My great grandfather (S.H. Weight) died in 1910, but was married in Pretoria on 29 August 1903, from what I can ascertain. This may just be coincidence but I am now wondering if old records somehow became muddled.

Not sure if S.H. Weight may have later transferred to the Army Service Corps from the Kaffrarian Rifles? (higher rank, but he had previously been a corporal in the BSAC).

I have found a record for S. Weight (not S.H. Weight) in www.forces-war-records.co.uk , but don't have full access to view QSA details to check if they possibly match those of S.H. Weight.

I would be grateful if anyone on the forum could assist me with this.
