QSA (6) Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (353 PTE P. MULHERN. CANADIAN M.R.)

Described as:

Patrick Mulhern appears on the medal roll of the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles (Regimental number 255) for the last clasp, he is present on the roll of the Canadian Contingent for the first 4 clasps, the medal being issued to Calgary on 28th September 1901 with a note ‘Presented by H.R.H.’ He also is present on another roll headed Canadian Mounted Rifles, this shows the issue of the first 4 clasps but has a note that the medal with 4 clasps and with the South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902 clasps was replaced on 6th December 1912 and sent to the recipient in Ireland, the medal in this lot is, we believe, the official replacement medal. 25-year-old Patrick Mulhern from Foxford, County Mayo, Ireland enlisted into the Canadian Mounted Rifles on 26th January 1900 and was discharged on 5th October 1900 in order to join the Transvaal Constabulary.
