One of the highlights of many years of interest in Boer War medals was the opportunity on Monday to inspect and photograph the medals awarded to R S S Baden-Powell and his his wife.

I am very grateful to the Scouts Heritage Collection for affording me this wonderful opportunity.

The medals consist of:

Ashanti Star, unnamed
BSACM reverse Rhodesia 1896 (Bt Lt Col R S S Baden-Powell 13th Huss)
QSA (3) OFS, Defence of Mafeking, Transvaal (Major General R S S Baden-Powell CB)
KSA (2) (Maj Genl R S S Baden-Powell CB Staff)
1911 Coronation Medal (unnamed)
1935 Jubilee Medal (unnamed)
1937 Coronation Medal (unnamed)
Chilean Order of Merit (unnamed)

Baden-Powell's full miniature group.

There is a considerable curvature to the mounting bar as would be expected on such an extensive group that had been worn.

Just last night I was looking at the 1978 auction catalogue of the Lovell collection which included the sale of the group of medals awarded to his brother Major F.S. Baden-Powell of the Scots Guards (Lot 90) who was permitted by the G.O.C. to join the relief column for Mafeking.
