Albert Edward Doughty was born at Staveley, Derbyshire on 6 November 1879 and enlisted as Stoker Class II on 25 April 1898. His first service afloat was with Endymion however he was posted to Fearless on 5 July 1899 and was with her on the outbreak of the Anglo-Boer War. Promoted Stoker on 1 September 1899 the crew did not see any service ashore and as such did not earn any clasps to their awards.
Doughty continued to serve after the war, being advanced Leading Stoker with Spartiate on 1 June 1907. He was serving in this role aboard Indefatigable when he fell ill with Tuberculosis, unfortunately his was to prove fatal and he died at sea on 15 March 1909.
