[ Great War medals ]

Private James Harvey was born c.1881 in St. Cuthberts, Edinburgh, Scotland, and enlisted for service with the 2nd Dragoons (Royal Scots Greys) on 11 January 1900, having previously worked as a clerk. After a period of home service he served in South Africa 13 March 1901 and 21 May 1902.

He re-enlisted for service with the Royal Garrison Artillery on 26 August 1902, remaining with them until 25 August 1905.

He was recalled for service during the Great War on 26 August 1914. His service papers suggest that he was severely wounded in action in France, and then discharged on 25 August 1915.
