Good Morning Mike,

It's a pleasure; I also had a look at the National Archives of Australia but didn't get any hits; it's not a common family name. It also looks like he may have remained behind in South Africa as he transferred to the Transvaal Post Office.

Good Luck with the rest of your research!

Regards,
Sturgy

Copy of a post in BMF.......

Good Morning Everyone......

I received a Q.S.A. / K.S.A. pair yesterday that I had found on echo bay..... When I purchased them I obtained them because they were a pair and even though I had a couple of singles to the unit I did not have a K.S.A.

When I saw them on echo bay I noticed that there was no regimental number but since there are many odd things that happen to the QSA I did not look much farther and thought that I would do more on a cold winters day when there was nothing else to do......

Well on their arrival I started looking..... No luck in all of the areas that I normally look..... I then contacted my friends on the Anglo Boer War Forum..... Thinking someone had access to Ancestry as all I have is Find My Past.....

Well this morning there was an answer from a fellow member who had found a copy of the medal roll with Four men listed on it.....

AUSTRALIAN POST OFFICE CORPS

ATTACHED TO ARMY POST OFFICE CORPS

Sergeant DAVIDSON, A.W., Cape Colony, Remarks: Returned to Australia
Sergeant McGLINN, E. T., Returned and Retained by P.O.C., Cape Colony, Remarks: Transfered to Transvaal Post Office
Sergeant ROSEBY, C.E., Cape Colony, Transvaal, Remarks: Returned to Australia
Sergeant VINDEN, E., Cape Colony, Remarks: Returned to Australia

The pair that I rec'd were the medals to Sergeant E. T. McGlinn.....

This was a surprise Australian, were there only the Four to "The Army Postal Corps" or possibly "The Australian Postal Corps" ????? I know a KSA to an Australian in very uncommon......

And all this happened before I had my morning coffee.....

Mike

Thanks to my friends at ABW Forum......

Yes, a KSA to an Australian QSA recipient is an excellent find. About 2k KSAs were awarded to those who served in Colonial Australian units and went on to qualify while serving later - say - with the Commonwealth Horse. An unknown number of KSAs were awarded to men who served in locally recruited South African units.
Checking with OZ-Boer D/B, Sgts. Roseby and Vinden are found - but no reference to McGlinn or Davidson.
Hopefully, somewhere out there are three more QSAs impressed to the APOC (Roseby, Vinden and Davidson) and awaiting the discovery of their Australian background.
Regards
IL.

Good Morning and Thankyou ResearchRescue......

This is one of the reasons that I love this forum..... The way that each of its members will assist each other as much as possible with any of the pieces in their collection......

All I have to do is now look for his missing medals.....

A heartfelt thank you again.....
