George Adamson was born in 1879 and attested into the Cheshire Regiment in 1898, serving with the 2nd Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War. He saw further service with the 1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 12 September 1914.

Duplicate Boer War medals were issued in 1925.

Burmese Expedition, 1887-9.—Medal with clasp. S. African War, 1900-02.—On Staff. Operations in the Orange Free State Feb. to May 00, including actions at Karee Siding, Vet River {5 and 6 May) and Zand River. Operations in the Transvaal in May and Jun. 00, including actions near Johannesburg, Operations In the Transvaal 30 Nov. 00 to 31 May 02. Despatches, Lond Gaz., 10 Sept. 01, and 29 July 02. Brev. of Maj. Queen's medal with 3 clasps. King's medal with 2 clasps.

Harray Cartwright joined The Militia on the 21st of April 1896 at the age of 32 years and 8 months, a Collier from Macclesfield. He stated that he had served as a Regular Soldier for 12 years with the South Staffordshire Regiment.
