John W. Brennan was born at St. James, London around 1879 and served with the 2nd Battalion The Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment. He was listed as a deserter on 25 December 1899 at Fareham but returned to duty, seeing action throughout the Second Anglo-Boer War. After the war he was posted to the 1st Battalion in India on 27 March 1902.

Described as: 'A South Africa and WWI group of five to '6147 Pte C. Theobald RL. WT Surrey Regt'; Queen South Africa Medal with two clasps, King South Africa Medal with two clasps, 1914 Star, War Medal, Victory Medal and Death Plaque. *Notes- Charles Edward Theobald died Saturday 3rd October 1914, between the Boer War and WWI he worked for the GWR and his name is remembered on a plaque at Taunton Station.'

Mounted from a contemporary top silver brooch bar.

Frank Walker served with the 2nd Battalion, Royal West Surrey Regiment in South Africa during the Boer War, and was wounded at Colenso on 15 December 1899.
