09Jul25. An Excellent Q.S.A. with 5 clasps awarded to Captain James Lionel Joyce Conry, Connaught Rangers, who was twice wounded, thrice mentioned in despatches, and later awarded the D.S.O. for ‘his gallant action at Colenso, when he volunteered to carry a message under heavy fire’. He was later placed in command of the Gedaref Arab Battalion, in the Sudan, and was killed in action ‘while gallantly leading his troops’ against a band of rebels at Wad Hadi, on the Atbara River on 3 March 1914, comprising: Queen’s South Africa, 1899-1902, second type reverse, 5 clasps, Cape Colony, Tugela Heights, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal (Capt. J. L. J. Conry. D.S.O. Conn: Rang:), engraved in mixed italics, good very fine D.S.O. London Gazette: 27 September 1901
