Stephen Telfer attested into the Scottish Horse and served in South Africa with the 1st Battalion during the Boer War where he was discharged on 21 July 1901. He attested into the Rand Rifles three days later, and, after his discharge, re-attested with them for further service on 24 April 1902.

M&E say Frederick James Rogers of Strood, Kent, served with the 2nd Company Scottish Horse and is confirmed on the medal roll. He was discharged at Johannesburg on 25 June, 1902.

Robert Edmonds, a Labourer from Bermondsey, Surrey, was born in 1874. He attested, aged 18, into the Royal West Surrey Regiment on 6 January 1891. A serial defaulter, he served in India from 17 January 1895 to 18 April 1899 and took part in the Tirah campaign. Invalided from the service he next attested into the Scottish Horse in Johannesburg, and served with the 1st Battalion during the Boer War. He was severely wounded at Moedwil on 30 September 1901 and discharged ‘medically unfit’ on 28 November 1901. He attested into the Dorsetshire Regiment for service during the Great War on 7 September 1914 and served on the Western Front from 7 September 1914 to 23 September 1916, afterwards serving at Home until his further medical discharge as a consequence of shell shock on 19 December 1916. He sadly appears in the register of inmates for the City of Westminster Union dated 31 March 1917.

Charles Doig from Birkenhead, Cheshire attested for the Imperial Yeomanry at Edinburgh on 28th February 1901, aged 30. He had a fair complexion, blue eyes and dark hair. His NOK was his mother, Mrs M J Doig, who lived at 108 Easter Road, Edinburgh.

He served for 1 year and 188 days of which he spent 1 year and 144 days in South Africa. All 5 clasps are stated on his service record.

During the Great War he served in 1st Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers and later with the Scottish Rifles and was discharged on 9th July 1919 due to ill health and was issued with a Silver War Badge.
