In the interest of transparency I was not the successful bidder; however, I hope someone on this forum was so that we can learn more him and his family. Either way it was fun to undertake the due diligence and learn more about the Powell family:

Lot Description:
ANGLO BOER WAR MEDAL - SCOUT H.H. POWELL - MONTMORENCY`S SCOUTS

Reserach:
Full name: Henry Herbert Powell
Prior to the War was part of "D" Squadron of the Cape Colonial Forces, his father was his Corporal, and then transferred to Montmorency's Scouts on the 20th Feb 1900 and then taken POW at Schoeman's Kop:



He then transferred to the Molteno Town Guard when his father suffered a heart attack and passed away.

The same vendor, at the same time, sold off what I believe to be his fathers SAGS medal:

I had a go for this one, but the bidding took an enormous leap at one stage, which scared me off!

I think I was the underbidder here. Went with the family to see the Christmas Light switch on in Fleet, Hampshire and got side-tracked.....

I bought the medal to Powell of Montmorency’s Scouts. I will try research him further, and thanks for the input so far from Sturgy and others. I will post when I find out more.

A scarce medal indeed, and I am disappointed to have lost out, but with loadshedding one never knows if there will be a signal when needed, so I made one bid at an amount based on historical prices achieved, added a % and placed what I thought was a competitive bid, hence the large jump.
