M&E state that 18 men of the 11th Hussars participated in the Defence of Ladysmith, and only two other men on the roll were issued with the same combination of clasps. Clowes later served on attachment to the 5th (Royal Irish) Lancers.

Many more 11th Hussars served in the Defence of Ladysmith. Their QSA is complex as the regiment didn't deploy to South Africa, they all served with other units. Which unit is on the medal is to be determined. My blog discusses this theangloboerwars.blogspot.com/2016/02/11...ussars-rare-qsa.html

As to that clasp combination, there are four in total to the 11th Hussars.

R. Morris attested for the 11th Hussars and served on attachment with the 19th Hussars in South Africa during the Boer War; his QSA was originally impressed ‘19th Hussars’ before being officially corrected to ‘11th Hussars’.

Thomas Stannard was born in Liverpool in 1868 and attested for the 11th Hussars at Birkenhead on 19 September 1888. He served with them in South Africa from 22 July 1890 to 23 October 1892, and then in India until 16 February 1896. He transferred to the Army Reserve on 20 February 1896, but was recalled for War service on 30 December 1899, and served in South Africa during the Boer War from 1 March 1900 to 13 August 1901 (also entitled to a South Africa 1901 clasp). He was finally discharged on 23 September 1901, after 13 years and 5 days’ service. Following the outbreak of the Great War he attested for the 16th Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment, on 10 October 1914, but did not serve overseas. He was discharged on 3 April 1918, and was awarded a Silver War Badge, no. 511,786.
