The book you refer to is definitely the same one I saw on the Canadian dealers list-on page 282 about 3 lines from the top is my man-correct service number-surname spelled incorrectly and given the initials Harold Hy.
The medal is named H.J. not H.H. and the roll agrees.
There is another H.H.De Bourbel who served in Kitcheners Fighting Scouts (on the roll) with an annotation that he served in Kaffrn Rifles with the service number 817.

Well I have been through the entire Kaffrn Scouts roll twice and cannot find him and I suspect this is the man who served in the 1st AIF in WW1.

Just as an aside a member of the BM Forum posted some exerts of some letters from my man published in a New Zealand newspaper-obviously the Kaffarian Rifles was a mounted unit by all the talk of galloping. I guess really the only foot soldiers in South Africa would have been Imperial regiments-every one else would have been on horses.

Do not tell the Royal Canadian Regiment that they did not slog all over South Africa or you may have many Ghosts chasing you...... LOL

The medal arrived today and I was delighted-in great condition-no edge knocks or surface scratches-in almost mint condition, on a nice long piece of original silk ribbon which I was lucky enough to salvage and re-use.
