I have acquired a group consisting of QSA/KSA (to the SALH) and WWI trio to an Officer which I need help with.

The roll for the KSA medal makes specific mention that my man H R Noonan; served with the Imperial Bushmen Contingent. (see excerpt below)

Where would I be able to find out more about this service and would there be any records online or elsewhere where one could look?

Regards

Rory

As I pointed out elsewhere, Australian Colonial units titled "Imperial Bushmen" were those funded by the Imperial Government. Those titled "Bushmen" were funded by public subscription or by the State Government concerned. I had a trawl through the various States' Imperial Bushmen rolls and could find no exact match for H.R.Noonan; or indeed any H.Noonan. His QSA roll entry unfortunately gives no further help. On the QSA roll, he appears to be listed as "H.B". Some of the Imperial Bushmen units were "topped up" in SA - locally enlisted. I strongly suspect your man was one of those.
If ever the scent warms up, I would be happy to look further.

Thanks IL

I have called for his WWI papers and, hopefully, he was one of those that went on to another theatre after German South West Africa in which case there would be attestation papers which might reveal more.

Hello everyone

This group along with a copious quantity of shooting medals has landed.

I append an edited version of his SALH paper showing the reference to the Imperial Bushmen Contingent - I have also learned that he was born in 1878 in New South Wales. There is also a photograph of the group.

IL - if you are able to shed any more light on the man please feel free to do so.

Regards

Rory
