I would like to thank all the contributors to this post - it has been most insightful and of great benefit to me. I once acquired the Natal Govt. Railways QSA's to The Brothers Curry - George, Michael and Patrick.

A search of this forum will bring up their stories but, suffice it to say, one of the brothers claimed, until his dying day, that he was the driver of the "Winston Churchill train" - we know this not to be true now but who, 40 years ago and before the advent of the internet, would have had the temerity to doubt his claim. Of course it could be the escape train to LM that he was referring to, I have never been able to substantiate his version of events.
