M&E claim 'Serjeant Stephen R. Cawker of the 1st Namaqualand Border Scouts, is confirmed on the medal roll. Only a reported 35 Q.S.A.s were issued to the Namaqualand Border Scouts. He later served in WWI with the S.A.S.C. Offered with original transmission slip for the 1914-15 Star for service rendered in the German South-West African Campaign.'
THe AG2 information foe the 1st NBS has not been completed on WO100/259p107 but an additional note says 'Issue to be made on application only'.
The QSA roll for the 1st NBS extends to page 142. Some names have crosses against them and it is certainly true that the pages contain few annotations other than the crosses. It would appear that only the white men in the unit received a medal.
There is a separate roll for the 2nd NBS.
