That was my mistake. I had written SA01 rather than SA02. I have corrected this now.

Its always an ominous sign when the auctioneer begins the sale of the lot with the words 'you can forget the estimate ...".

The trio to Guide and Interpreter J McAlister just sold for a hammer price of £1800 or R29,300.

Someone with access to the medal did not want his service to be recorded for posterity but they stopped short of fully erasing the name.

No clasps are attached to the medal. He earned Tr, 01 & 02.

It has certainly had a fairly hard life, but, still a nice thing.

Simpson is additionally entitled to the SA01 clasp. It was finally returned to the Mint in October 1913
