Hi
Could anyone shed some light on this soldier?
Doing some research shows he was wounded Elandslaagte-A/Cpl
Seems he was in more than on Regiment?
Medal has Relief of Mafeking Clasp- the question is was he entitled to it?

Appreciate any information.
Regards
Elandslaagte

Hi Elandslaagte, I had a quick look at the rolls and found a Lieut Rupert Wickman of the 1st ILH. I presume this is your man as I can't find a Cpl. He has Cape Colony and Elandslaagte clasps. I notice that many of the officers he's listed with have RoM clasps (WO 100/250, page not dated or numbered). Then, a Lieut R.W. Wickman of the Commander-In-Chief's Body Guard (formerly Lieut 1st ILH) with Orange Free State and Transvaal clasps. The earlier issue of the QSA with CC and Elandslaagte clasps is noted (WO 100/243, not dated and numbered). That's all I can find in a very quick look for possible candidates.

Cheers,

Mark

Elandslaagte,

Rupert's medal is an interesting one. While many of the officers of the ILH did receive the RoM clasp, he was one of the few who did not. If he was to have gained the clasp with any unit, it would have been the ILH because he seems not to have resigned until 30 Jun 1900.

The nominal roll says he subsequently served in CinC BG, what looks to be 'Hock Riders' (?) and the FID. The nominal roll says the KSA was issued by the FID. He is shown on the fourth page of the nominal roll.

On the medal, are the clasps in the correct order?

Kind regards
David

Thanks Elandslaagte,

Looking at the medal, I would say the RoM clasp is a copy and has been been added later. The rivets are also wrong.

Kind regards
David
