I’m starting to consolidate my research into surviving SJAB South Africa medals with a dedicated website www.sjab-sa-medals.info . I think I’ve finally established there were 1769 bronze medals issued to men who went to SA as SJAB 83 who were enlisted into the RAMC, 15 at the inaugural investiture and 40 for home service, making a total of 1907.

I've now entered the details of the surviving medals held at the Order of St John Museum - unfortunately no pictures yet. Also many clasps that only got from the War Office to SJAB HQ and dissapointingly never reached the recipirnts. The records only name the recipient and not the particular clasp/s.

I would welcome any additions, (especially images) or corrections surviving medals

Forgot to mention that the SJAB number should correlate with the SJAB medal including the 5 figure RAMC number. For subsequent engagements it appears that new numbers may have been issued which would account for the gaps in the sequence.
