Frank,

Have you thought that maybe the UMR trooper might have worn the pouch on his head?
sorry

On a more serious note I have a Prince Alfred's Guard QVC pouch badge, Owen's 41, which is listed as pouch belt, glengarry and cap badge worn untill 1890s but the bolt have been cut short and perhaps it was used as a cap badge.

regards, Iain

I think that normally these type of badges with screw posts are pouch badges but I have seen Umvoti MR with such posts and a slouch hat ring!
Kind regards Frank

Hello Iain,
Yes, I've encountered short posts before, I think that may we be indeed the case, that UMR was, I think, an Edwardian example.

My name is Bruce McMillan, Lt Col Noel Douglas McMillan's only grandson. I am interested to read that you have a medal of is. Can you tell me more about this?

Thank you.

Hi Bruce

I think you must ask your father about the medals and other military items that once belonged to your Late Grandfather.

Hi Brian,

I wrote to you because in a post you said the following:

Brett

Great badges and medals.

As you know a unit close to my heart.

NMR was/is affiliated to Glenwood Boys High School in Durban. I was a student there way back in the 1970's.

I am priviliaged to have in my collection Lt Col Noel Douglas McMilliam VD medal group. He was

the units first OC of WW2.

Iain, yes a great unit history, we were personal friends with Tpr Aubrey Goodwill who had a number of his wartime experiences recounted in this book. His wife was involved with typing the initial draft copy of the book.

Regards
Brian

Do you still have the medal? I have two of his, as well as his WWI Memorial Plaque.

Regards,

Bruce.

Hi Bruce

I am sure we are on two different paths, cannot be the same family. The group I have was to the first OC of the NMR during WW2, he also had WW1 service and those medals are in the group. He did not die in WW1 so the Memorial plaque could not have belonged to the one I have. The chap whose group I have passed away in early 60's if I recall. He had a brother but he did not have any military service.

Regards
Brian
