I will put a photo of my SALH titles on another thread. Perhaps we can get a SALH thread to run as well as this one on the ILH. I have recently come to an impasse with my research on a Canadian who served in the SALH. Perhaps I should show his medal as well. I also have a few more largely unresearched SALH QSA's.

Your observation about the badges 'being there', whereas the medals only came later, has made me look at my small badge collection with new interest. A fellow medal collector in our suburb has, like me, collected badges as incidentals to his medal collection. During the past year or two, he has shown a lot more interest in badges and I now understand why this is so.

A very good photo, the recurring problem with members of the ILH wearing the slouch hat (and everyone else!) is that as "they" are looking straight at the camera, "we" are seldom able to see the badge!

Hi all,

this photo of an ILH Trooper was taken at Potchestroom in 1902, therefore it could still have been during the ABW.



OK you cant see his slouch hat badge but he clearly wears the "crossed flags" as his collars.
As you said Frank, these people always wanted to look at the camera!
