Laura Gray wrote: Thank you both so much for your replies. I have previously been given some information from this forum on George Prime 37th Battalion RFA Regimental number 8718, I'm attempting to write his story for my family, but although I am getting on quite well I don't have any photos, I found this one at home so wondered if it might be him, must be another unknown ancestor! I will research the link provided. Thank you again!

Hello Laura

Welcome to the forum.
For your records and research pertaining to George Prime

As you can see from the attestation papers this chap served 6 plus years at home and in South Africa. Unfortunately no mention of India. Also, it looks like he was accidentally killed while serving in S Africa.

Best wishes

Dave..

Hi Dave, Thank you so much! That is amazing. I have not been able to find that document anywhere, it is fascinating and so helpful. So I guess that answers the India photo question. I started researching him when I found a photo of his grave in Standerton 'accidentally killed' and the memorial card his parents had made for him in my Dad's belongings, now of course I've gone down the rabbit hole of finding out more about him and his life, This forum is incredible and so interesting.

Hi Laura
George's personal effects entry.

His medal rolls record a Queens South Africa medal with 3 clasps. Cape Colony, Transvaal and Orange Free State. He was also entitled to the Kings South Africa medal with the 1901 /1902 date clasps.
I have included a photograph of the medal entitlement for your records. The medal set shown was awarded to a Bombardier J F Henley who served in the 37th Royal Field Artillery.

Best wishes

Thank you again Dave, it's so interesting to see the handwritten entries, especially when they refer to a member of your own family. I really appreciate all your help today!

The final section of a very long list of War Casualties published in Lloyds Weekly Newspaper of 9th February 1902:

Not that it adds anything to the knowledge base already created by Dave!
