Hi Gents,

We I just received this lovely little badge as a gift from a friend of mine. It has been the topic of a number of discussion to try and identify but without any success as yet. So I thought I would try it here. I don't think this is an ABW badge, so forgive my posting it. However there has been some suggestion it may be South African, so thought it was worth sharing on off chance.

Also, any idea what the critter is?

Cheerio,

Roy

Collecting/wanted ABW insignia if anyone has some spares?

Roy,

An interesting badge for sure.

I tried looking up the latin motto 'Serenus Sed Vigilans' but without any luck. Is that motto correct?

Hi djb,

Yes that's correct (see pic attached). I did the same and with the same negative result. It is a well made badge and I'm not sure what the critter is, not one I'm familiar with.

Cheerio,

Roy

My Latin translation gives the motto as "Soft but Watchful". The first word could also indicate "moderate". Could the "critter" be a stylised Beaver or something similar?
Best regards

Hi Gents,

As Mike said I'm sure it's not a beaver at all. I did wonder if it was something to do with a school of some sort? No idea where I'm getting that from, just a gut feeling. I think it he could narrow down this little critter then perhaps that would give us a continent or country. It sure is a mystery for such a nice well made badge.

Cheerio,

Roy
