Here's another medal issued in 1900 entitled 'Princess of Pity'.

I have only seen a few examples of this medal, one being the Royal Collection of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, another in the American Numismatic Society Collection. I have an example of this very rare medal uncased.

'Princess of Pity' medal Further details

Creator: Emil Fuchs (1866-1929) (medallist) Creation Date: 1900

Dimensions: 7.05 x 7.05 cm.

Description:

1 medal : silver

Reverse: Allegorical figures of Hope, Faith and Charity standing in a rural landscape within circular indentation surrounded by bows and flowers.

How very interesting. I'm presuming that the epithet refers to her charitable work in the Boer War including the Princess of Wales Hospital Ship and the convalescent home, the Gables.

Best wishes,

Justin

Hi Breaker

Congratulations on having an extremely interesting Boer War medallion : in 40 years of collecting these items I have never encountered an example!

I note the creation date of 1900. I wonder if they were ever struck in more than a few examples as she was no longer Princess of Wales but Queen in January 1901.
