Thank you for your responses. I would love to see his photo.
In the meantime I have seen 2 pages from his Attestation papers (perhaps that is all there are)
in which he states that he had 1 months previous service : "Victoria Mounted Rifles 1 month. Left country"
Could this mean that he was in Australia before going to S Africa?
AFAIK the Victoria Mounted Rifles did not arrive in Africa until after he had enlisted on 25 Sept 1899.
This is a mystery
His papers confirm his family connections through the name and address of his brother in Cork.
