I have been working with British graves and monuments for the past 8 years. There are many mistakes on the monuments such as the initials etc. The name on the monument in Queenstown is definitely JE Butler although they only have E Butler on it.

Thank you for this. Several reasons why I thought it may not be my John, is that I have never see any mention of a second name or initial for him in all my research, but he could have given some of his brothers do have a second name.
With these photos you have sent, I now have one headstone where he was buried, one family headstone in Alexandra where he is mentioned, and now two memorials, one in NZ (Timaru where he worked), and one in SA...amazing!
I am presuming it is Queenstown in SA?
