As any collector or researcher studying the various medal rolls will know, it is common to find 'yes' in the column indicating entitlement to a clasp to have a line struck through to negate this clasp being awarded to the recipient of a QSA medal.
Also a small 'x' with various marks surrounding it also suffices as does a written comment indicating a 'no clasp' medal.

I am currently researching a colonial chap whose entitlement is shown to be:
Natal
Cape Colony
Orange Free State
Transvaal
The simple line which indicates entitlement has been circled for Natal and Cape Colony.

It is my guess that his medal should bear CC, OFS & TV, because you cannot have Natal and CC on the same medal.
The reason I ask is that I acquired a QSA disc to a potential relative which requires repair work. I have a suspender bar and a clasp carriage with CC,OFS,TV thereon, and wanted to be certain I have it all correct before I put it all together.

A very worthwhile project for me, and an interesting story to follow in due course.

I think we have insufficient information on which to base a firm opinion, but it seems to me that Natal, OFS, Tr, is as likely, possibly more so than CC, OFS, Tr.
Qualification for Natal clasp ended mid 1900. Potentially he then had two years to trek back round to CC.
That he is mentioned for Natal suggests he was a member of the Natal Field Force, who generally advanced through OFS to Tr.
What does the medal roll say of the clasp entitlement of his cohort?

The man's name is Guy Dudley Wheelwright.

He is to be found on WO100/216 for the Medal Roll of "Director of Supplies Native Labour Corps." Whereupon he is given as 387 Superintendent Wheelwright, G. D.

His QSA is named to G. D. WHEELWRIGHT MURRAY'S SCOUTS

I have almost completed my research and just have a few loose ends to tie up before I post a thread telling his biographical history (which is very interesting!).
But it would be nice to get the medal put back together as soon as I am sure that I have the clasp combination correct as originally issued.

His name is also to be found on the roll for Murray's Scouts dated 18 July 1901, along with J F(orsyth) Ingram and J S Marwick

Pete notes his inclusion as an additional entry on the Murray's Scouts roll, WO100/259p106. There are no clasps identified. The roll notes 'the following were also on the pay sheet but employed elsewhere'.

I think you are correct that his entitlement was CC, OFS and Tr. The ring around CC and Natal on the Native Labour Corps roll suggests the compiler was aware that these two clasps were in conflict.

It is interesting that his medal was named to Murray's Scouts who issued his pay rather than the Native LC where he served.

A very nice medal to the Murray's Scout which are very infrequently seen.
