On the 21st December 1901 the court received a telegram from Sir Arthur Grant, Baronet of Moneymusk " Can the fact that Scheepers spared my sons life- Grant 12th Lancers- in time of great excitement, September 23rd , be pleaded in mitigation of sentence ?" Is this why Lord Roberts sent a telegram cancelling the execution ? but why order the execution the next day ?

This, I believe, is a photograph of the mysterious poisoner "Hugo". It appears on an album page opposite a photograph of Scheepers.

I see the photographer Ivie. H Allan is the same person who secretly photographed the execution of G Scheepers I see Graff Reinet , I wonder if he had a studio there or was Hugo a POW there ?
