Well, no regimental number for a personal ID. The implement looks like it may well have been shared around a Company or Section of the 2nd Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers. The hole on the top being so it can be hung on a peg (for kit inspection?).

IL.

Thank you for information, can you please tell me what A.Coy stands for?,can it be 2nd Fusilliers regiment name? as you correctly pointed out there is no number on this button cleaner so might be shared between soldiers in camp.

Sorry, I was using shorthand! In the British army of the ABW period, a battalion was comprised of eight lettered Companies and further subdivided into half Companies and sections. The stamping "2 RDF" makes it a pretty safe bet that the implement was the property of A Company of the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Dublin Fusliiers .

The longer one marked IF is from the Irish Fusiliers, also called Royal Irish Fusiliers. They were at Talana, which is your area I understand.
The other possibility is the Inniskilling Fusiliers, but less likely around Talana, I think.

The one marked EL is a puzzle. E could be engineers, L could be Lancers, but the two don't go together in my brain.
The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.
